A group of final year Mechanical Engineering students have developed an economic transport vehicle which would benefit farmers and traders of small towns and villages .The engine is capable of developing a maximum of 10BHP and it can operate either on battery or petrol. The battery when fully charged is sufficient to cover 80 kilometer and the maximum speed it can attain is 40 KMPH and the fuel efficiency is 45 Km per litre and it can carry a maximum load of 2 tonnes. The cost of transporting goods by this vehicle approximately is Rs. 1.40 per Km per Kg. The multi tasking vehicle besides transporting goods is also designed for performing tasks such as crop and fodder threshing, operating pumps for irrigation and operate AC generators etc.It costed Rs. 1.20 lakh to develop this vehicle and the project was wholly funded by the university. Mr. Alok Kumar, project leader and a student of final year Mechanical engineering said that the hybrid vehicle is a boom to the small farmers and traders of villages and small towns and its benefits them to reduce the transport cost of their agriculture produce and goods to the markets. The university is planning to apply for a patent and encourage its students to go for start up units to manufacture these values.
