Compost Management and Its Advantages

Introduction- Compost is a process of organic waste decomposition that improves the soil condition and helps the plant grow better. You can make better use of your vegetable and fruit skin and peel instead of putting the same in the dustbin. Compost is essential for organic farming, where farmers are restricted to use pesticide fertilizers. Compost provides proper nutrients to plants and adds beneficial microbes to the soil.

Basic Compositing :-All compositing needs three vital components
1. Brown : This includes dead or dry leaves, wood shaving, pine needles, branches, paper, shredded newspaper, wood ash, sawdust and twigs.
2. Greens : This consists of vegetable scraps, fruit waste, fresh leaves, eggshells, dry Plants, and coffee residues.
3. Water : Correct amount of water keeps the components moisture and help sin compost development.

Advantages of Composting :

  • The best organic alternative of chemical fertilizers that helps in organic farming.
  • Lower methane emission from landfills and lessen your carbon footmark.
  • It improves soil structure.
  • Motivate the production of good bacteria and fungi that collapse organic matter to produce humus, a rich nutrient-filled material.

Components That Are Not Good for Compost and Why?
  • Black Walnut tree leaves: Because they generate chemical substances that might harmful to plants.
  • Dairy Products: Because milk products like butter, cream, curd, and eggs generate smell after some time and allure insects and flies.
  • Coal or Charcoal Ash: Because they are unfavorable to plants.
  • Allergic plants: Because these plants might keep the insects with them and can transfer back to other plants.
  • Meat or fish bones: Because they produce odor problems and engage pests.
  • Pet wastes: Because they might hold bacteria, insects, germs, and viruses that can harm human.

Easy Ways to Make Compost at Home :
There are many ways to make compost. We are going to update the easiest ways to make compost at home. For composting, you might need tools like a big spoon or square shape shovel, pitchforks, and a water hose with a spray head. The regular blending of the compost and water will help to maintain the compost.

Small Area at Home Garden :

  • Choose the dry and shaded area of your garden where water resource is available to the compost pile or bin.
  • Put brown and green ingredients as they are available, and make sure you chop the big pieces into smaller ones.
  • Put some water if you find a dry substance to keep the moisture.
  • Once your compost bin gets made, mix grass clippings into the container and conceal fruits and vegetable waste under 10 inches of compost substance.
  • When the material at the bottom looks dark and rich in color, you can use compost as fertilizer.
  • This process generally takes 2 months to 2 years.
