Introduction- Jamun, is high in nutrients, refreshing and has various health benefits. Jamun is commonly known as Java plum or Indian blackberry in English, Jamun or Jambul in Hindi. Its botanical name is Syzygium cumin. The Jamun plant is a very rich source of many different phytochemicals such as anthocyanins, glucoside, ellagic acid, isoquercetin, kaemferol, and myricetin. The Jamun tree commonly grows in the Indian sub-continent as well as in other Asian countries. Jamun fruit is also known as “Gods fruit”.

The Jamun fruit helps in the management of Diabetes. The Jamun seeds contain the two major bioactive compounds i.e. Jamboline and Jambosine which is good for the reduction of glucose levels in the blood and thus by helping in increasing the production of insulin. The black plum variety or Java plum has anti-diabetic properties as well.

It converts starch into energy thereby it keeps the blood sugar levels in control. It has a low Glycemic Index and is very good for sugar patients. It also relieves the diabetic symptoms of frequent urination. Along with the main flesh of the fruit, the powdered seeds, bark, and leaves are used in the treatment of urine sugar. The fruit and its seeds have a low glycemic index.

It has a jamboline which controls the conversion of starch into sugar. That is the reason why it is known as one of the best ayurvedic medicine to cure diabetes. Generally, sugar patients can intake one teaspoon of powdered Jamun seeds. The seeds are also popular for its ayurvedic herbs to control diabetes.

The Jamun seed has ellagic acid which is known as powerful antioxidant and it plays an important role in reducing hypertension and blood pressure-related problems.
The phenolic compounds and flavonoids in Jamun seeds help to enhance the immune system. Both Fruit pulp and seed/ kernel has fibers and that helps in weight loss, improves the better functioning of the digestive system, and it also avoids ulcer problems. The Jamun seed has best remedy for treating acne. For treating certain problems like piles and hemorrhoids, Jamun fruit juice is very effective. It contains an adequate amount of vitamin C and iron, this increases the level of blood hemoglobin.

Uses of Jamun :-
Jamun fruits, leaves, seeds, and bark are widely used as ayurvedic medicine. Extracts of jamun fruit is used in treating the common cold, cough, and flu.The Jamun seed is very rich in glycosides which has anti-diabetic properties. Jamun juice is used in treating sore throat problems.
Due to the antibacterial properties of Jamun fruit juice, it is used to cure dandruff. The Jamun fruit extracts contains strong anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antifungal properties and thus it is recommended to use for treating and healing wounds. Bleeding hemorrhoids can be easily cured by regular consumption of Jamun fruit juice. The Jamun fruit contains antacid property and it avoids acid formation in the stomach therefore it is used in treating gastritis.
